Stronger Together: deploying cross-sectoral collaboration to overcome the global preparedness gap (2019)

Cybersecurity, while not typically considered in the scope of disaster risk reduction, is a major concern for organisations and is a great vulnerability in the aftermath of a natural disaster. It should not be overlooked when designing a resilience strategy. This session discusses avenues for weaving together a comprehensive resilience strategy using examples of how the private sector integrates their cyber and business continuity programs.

Moderating: Council on Foreign Relations Term Member Virtual Meeting: Reflecting Sunlight to Cool the Planet (2022)

With the planet warming at an alarming pace, there are currently three main approaches to managing risks from the changing climate: reducing emissions, removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and adapting to build resilience and minimize the effects of the increase in temperature. CFR senior fellow Stewart Patrick discusses a potential fourth approach, known as solar geoengineering, that reflects sunlight back into space to reduce rising temperatures on Earth.

The working session offered solutions that promote private sector engagement in reducing risks and building resilience, highlighting solutions for risk-informed investments. The session demonstrated how an enabling environment can be created to get the private sector to invest in disaster risk reduction and resilience building.
